The National Registration Bureau is a department under the Ministry of Immigration whose main responsibility is the issuance of the National identity cards in Kenya. Previously the doors had a card based system, which the Ministry felt was not secure as firstly, anybody could open any door to the department, and secondly the fact that employees who had been transferred still had access to the department.
The department was then faced with the challenge of unauthorized access and it ran the risk of having the sensitive identity documents that are issued by the department falling into the wrong hands. To facilitate against these challenges the department decided to install seven FingerTec AC900 Door Access systems. The FingerTec units were installed at the Ministry’s Head Office in Nairobi, across four levels.
The FingerTec units were installed on all the main access points and also along the corridors. Other units were installed on the doors to the production rooms and computer rooms, as access to these two areas are severely restricted. On the FingerTec Time Control and Management Software (TCMS) the system administrator was able to allocate access to only those users who were authorized to enter the two areas. |
