Crimes in the higher education industry have been a troubling issue over the years with students and faculty alike seemingly risking their lives each time they are on campus. From small-scale crimes such as theft, robbery, sexual assault and battery to school shootings such as the Columbine High School massacre in 1999 and the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007, the issue of safety awareness in such institutes has been constantly addressed in order to provide a safe and healthy learning environment without the hazards of being in danger on campus.
