It was the first time that Secutech organized an exhibition in Thailand, so we were a little weary of what the outcome would be. Setting up our booth on the first day in Bangkok, we were taken aback by the size of the exhibition – it was a little smaller than we expected. Apart from the initial impression, Secutech Thailand 2011, held from 30th June – 2nd July, proved to be the place to showcase your security products in Thailand. FingerTec’s booth received a rather good response, especially on the first and second day of the exhibition. Borrowing an idea from our Secutech Taiwan booth not too long ago, we also decided to have a small scale lucky draw for those who dropped their contact cards with us. In return, visitors would stand a chance to walk away with our FingerTec Premium Gifts such as a FingerTec Mug, T-shirt or our FingerTec Pens. |

The terminals that we decided to showcase in the exhibition were the Face ID 2, Q2i, TA100C, and the R2 & R2i demo unit. Although we had other competitors in the exhibition, some with larger and more detailed booths than ours, FingerTec still stood out and attracted attention without much effort, capturing the visitor’s first impression through the strong design of our marketing materials, after sales support and our in-house developed software, the TCMS V2. The Face ID 2 and the R2 & R2i demo unit received a lot of attention in the exhibition as well. Local visitors were impressed with the Thai translation of our hardware and software and many was interested in becoming our official reseller in Thailand. The show attracted close to visitors, giving FingerTec a large exposure in the Thai market. |

Thankfully, the last day of the exhibition was more relaxed and jovial, as visitors and exhibitors alike couldn’t help but loosen their formal demeanor for a more casual approach on a Saturday afternoon. All in all, though a little smaller than we expected it to be, Secutech Thailand 2011 ended up being a strategic place to display our products, as the country attracts many foreigners as well, due to its tourism, its upcoming reputation as a business hub, their undeniably unique-tasting food, as well as their outstanding hospitability that we got to experienced first-handedly! |

Our Little Adventure |
Business aside, my colleague Tamy Phoon and I also manage to experience a little Bangkok adventure, as we like to call it, after our second day of the exhibition. Unable to get a taxi due to a bad traffic jam caused by the rush hour and aided by the moderately heavy rain, we decided to take things into our own hands and walk out into the rain to hunt down a taxi by ourselves, after waiting for one for 2.5 hours. As our luck permitted, no empty taxi was around. Thankfully for us, a little “song tiao” (a tiny lorry-like vehicle to carry passengers) came to our rescue, and took us to a bus stop not far away without a charge, where three schoolboys not older than 12-13 years each guided us, running through the rainy Bangkok highway traffic and placing us on a bus with instructions to the conductor on where to drop us. |
In the end, the whole bus knew we were foreigners and we didn’t have to worry that the conductor might forget about us as everyone on the bus signaled Tamy and I (in Thai) at our stop. We reached our hotel at 11.30pm that night, exhilarated from our running and impressed at their kindness at the same time. All this was done without uttering a word of English! What a story to top off our drop-dead shopping, scrumptious food & enjoyable work experience in Bangkok! |
