Vacation houses are becoming a trend nowadays, where people settle in vacation houses during their long holidays instead of staying in hotels because it creates a homelike feel away from home. Currently, the system being used by operators include conventional key, swipe cards or proximity card system. There is nothing wrong with the normal key or card system but with Smart Keylock 8800, the key is no longer an issue because vacationers can access to their houses without having to use any keys at all! Smart Keylock 8800 offers convenience to vacationers with keyless entry to their houses or rooms with the use of fingerprint technology.

How is it done? Biometrics verification requires a user to present his fingerprint against the stored fingerprint template in the Smart Keylock 8800 for verification. Without the genuine fingerprint, nobody is allowed an entry into the houses/rooms. The advantages of keyless entry for vacationers are many and some of them include:

1. Do not need to carry keys around, easier to engage in outdoor activities at all times.
2. There is no issue of the keys being used by unauthorised person to enter your house because without having any registered fingerprint, Smart Keylock will not allow access. A few illegal tries exceeding the allowed limit on the Keylock 8800 will trigger a buzzer to alert that the Keylock is being tampered by the unauthorised.
3. One user can request to enrol two fingers and use the other one as backup when required.
4. One user can request to enrol two fingers and use the other one as backup when required.

Technology Characteristics of FingerTec® Solution
Smart Keylock 8800 comes with 3 types of enrolment and verification methods including fingerprints, cards, and password. For card system, RFID is default while MiFare and HID are options. Mechanical keys are also provided as backup unlocking method for access. However, for keyless entry, let’s focus on fingerprint enrolment and verification.

Smart Keylock 8800 stores a maximum of 500 fingerprint and all access records of every guests or administrators. The total transaction logs are 30000, which is sufficient for various purposes.

Keylock 8800 also supports 13.56Mhz Mifare card (MC) where guests can store their fingerprints directly into a Mifare card for verification. This means that the fingerprint is not present in the Smart Keylock 8800, instead, the fingerprint is matched against the template that is available in the Mifare card to allow access. As a security measure, administrator needs to lock the Mifare card to only unlock a dedicated Keylock 8800.

Enrolling Guests with Fingerprints
While Keylock 8800 reader itself can be used as registration station, OFIS scanner is highly recommended because it is small and efficient for reception. When a guest checks in into a hotel, a user ID is created and his fingerprint template is acquired using FingerTec® OFIS scanner. The fingerprint template will be stored into FingerTec® TCMS v2 software.

Transfering template into a USB flash disk
A copy of user information (user ID, fingerprints, password and RFID card ID) can be stored into a USB flash disk for transfer into the Keylock 8800.

Transfering users into Keylock 8800
The receptionist then has to upload the data from the USB flash disk into the Keylock 8800 that has been installed at a specific room. After the upload of the fingerprint template, the user is free to access at anytime he wants.

Accessing a room
Accessing a room is simple. The registered user needs to scan his fingerprint on the scanner to access.

Checking Out and Clearing of Data
During check out, the administrator needs to reset and clear all data from Keylock 8800 to ensure no unauthorised entries in the future. Now the room is ready for next guest check-in.

Mifare card enrolment method at Keylock 8800 MC
The Keylock 8800 MC supports Mifare cards, where guest can choose to save his fingerprint into a Mifare card. Guest must wave Mifare card to the Keylock 8800 before scanning his finger at Keylock 8800 for access. Each Mifare card can store only one fingerprint, thus only allowing one person to access the system.
The registration personnel writes his fingerprint into a Mifare card by using a Mifare card write and he also needs to insert a password into the Mifare card as a security code, which only allows entry at a dedicated Keylock
After the enrolment, the guest needs to wave the Mifare card at Keylock 8800 and the Keylock will prompt a need for password from Mifare card to match it with its memory. If the password is wrong, the Keylock does not allow access. If the password is matched, Keylock 8800 will read the fingerprint templates from Mifare card and requesting guest to scan finger for verification.

After the guest checked-out, administrator needs to clear information in the mifare card and need not reset the Keylock 8800 because Keylock 8800 does not store any information read from the Mifare card.

Smart Keylock 8800 is suitable for vacation houses because usually the vacation houses do not have any automated system to control access and fingerprint is the best solution to making sure that guests feel secured and at the same time being offered convenience while enjoying their vacation.
