Buying Insurance For Your Shipping Consignment –
Protecting Your Traveling Cargo

Not buying insurance for shipping consignment amongst FingerTec clients is a common one. One reason is ignorance; another is cost factor. Regardless whether the customer is choosing express courier services such as DHL, UPS and Fedex or they prefer using forwarding agents; insurance has always been a neglected option to many.

Lost of consignment in transit is not a common case but it does happen occasionally. As and when this rare occurrence happened, the question would be, who’s going to risk the loss?  Often times, customers put the responsibility on FingerTec Worldwide to replace the lost cargo the soonest possible at our own cost. When the value of the cargo is trifling, we can avoid the arguments on who’s responsible and replace the goods as a gesture of good faith to our clients. However, when the cargo in questions values to ten of thousands of dollars, the solution would not be as simple.

As a precautionary measure, FingerTec Worldwide strongly advises all our clients to consider buying insurance for their outbound cargos to avoid any complications or future losses. As at November 1 2008, our sales personnel have been instructed to quote all shipping charges WITH insurance and the refusal to do so from the client’s side will release FingerTec Worldwide from all liability of that particular consignments. A release clause will be clearly stated on the Proforma Invoice in all future orders starting November 15, 2008.

To put it simply, insurance is crucial and compulsory to protect your traveling cargo. The percentage charge for insurance is not significant as compared to the risk of having your cargo travels without protection. For express courier services, the insurance is only 1-2% of the consignment value and our freight forwarder charges 1% of the total consignment value.

There has been a concern about the declared value of the commercial invoice, which could differ from the actual value of the goods. It is advisable to insure the actual value of the goods to get full coverage rather than the declared value, which often times lesser than the actual.

We at FingerTec Worldwide will always strive to make sure that your cargo reaches you safely and to avoid any complications between our companies. Any suggestions or comments, please direct them to info@fingertec.com for considerations.
