A Peep at the Upcoming FingerTec® R2i and H2i

R2i Out Reader

We have been receiving requests from our clients for a simple and economic ‘out’ reader. The logic is, while going in requires fingerprint, going out should too. The current solution to install two readers as in and out would cost them double and this wouldn’t favor many of end clients who are reluctant to stretch the budget to implement total fingerprint system. The introduction of a reasonably priced ‘out’ reader is highly anticipated, as this is seen as the perfect solution to having a total fingerprint access control system without breaking a bank account.

Understanding the urgency, R&D of this reader is initiated earlier this year. A lot of factors were considered to be able to produce marketable ‘out’ reader to our resellers. The main factors are the cost, which must be considerably lesser than the current fingerprint reader, the design that must be simple enough yet practical and appealing and the material, which must be robust for everyday use. Everything is on schedule and we expect to have the product available in the market before end of 2008.

Take a peep at the upcoming ‘out’ reader, FingerTec® R2i, an impressive sleek design that syncs with the R2 design.  The much-anticipated out reader will be out soon; read the upcoming newsletter for the announcement.

  General specifications:
The Usage
The R2i is a simple fingerprint reader which works as an ‘out’ reader terminal in the implementation of In-Out reader system.

The Storage
The R2i is not storing any fingerprint templates because all fingerprint templates and the transaction logs are stored in the master unit. R2i simply works as a reader to capture fingerprint templates.

The Enrollment and Verification
Enrollment is not required in R2i. Every captured fingerprint template will be sent via Wiegand connection to the master unit be it R2, M2 or i-Kiosk 100 series for verification process. The R2i itself does not carry out any verification process, but only capturing process.

The Connection
The R2i only comes with Wiegand 26-bits output which operates to send fingerprint templates to master unit and a USB connection to access into the reader for configurations. During normal operation, the only connection crucial is the R2i  Wiegand connection to master unit. The master unit will take control of the other door lock connections.

The Power
The R2i is powered on by DC12V. It can be installed and powered on by power sharing from AdapTec AC.

H2i Simplified Access Control Reader

Sharing the same design with R2i, H2i is another product from FingerTec® designed specially for small offices and home use. The H2i is a simplified door access control that fulfills the following objectives:

As an alternative model for fingerprint door lock
Fingerprint door lock most of the time is refrained by its design, and to suit to different requirements, many different types of fingerprint door lock is required, for example, choices of latches, position of the handle, different kinds of door type, and many more have to be considered. H2i is a perfect option to ease all those considerations.

As a model to open the home user market
We design a model that suit to home users’ requirements by having simpler design, cheaper price, lesser functions, user-friendly, and the model must be able to add as an extra security feature to existing home door locks without the need to change them.

  General specifications:
The Usage
The H2i is a simple door lock controller, which can be, connected to all kinds of electromagnetic lock for example EM Lock, Door Strike, and Drop Bolt etc). At the same time, H2i can work with third party door lock system as fingerprint capturing and verification station. The H2i can output either DC12V or Wiegand 26-bits output to the 3rd party controller to carry out more operations.

The Storage
The fingerprint templates are stored directly inside the H2i. The H2i also keeps all transaction logs for future analysis.

The Enrollment and Verification
Users must enroll their fingerprint templates into the H2i during first time usage. The H2i can enroll RFID card and MIFARE card as well. The H2i can be controlled via the 2 buttons at the top of the reader and the LED light indicator indicates the activities of the reader. The H2i verified its users by comparing the fingerprints or cards against the database.

The Connection
H2i is a standalone terminal, where connection to a computer or software is not required to do configurations. The H2i is suitable as a simple door access controller to curb unauthorized access.  The H2i can connect directly to any door lock system, or to a 3rd party controller via Wiegand 26-bits output.
