Pleasant Taipei

Taipei City

Taipei is known by travelers for its friendly people and safe streets. The same can’t be said about Taiwan’s parliament though. You can roam around at night, go to places to have a good time without having to worry about malicious taxi drivers or snatch thieves. The people are very friendly, willing to help and always generous with smiles to make you feel warm.

This is my third visit to Taipei city and I am still mesmerized by the affability of this place.

Sight-seeing in Taipei

If you have arrived in Taipei and you don’t see Taipei 101, maybe you have landed elsewhere. Taipei 101 is a 101-floor landmark skyscraper of Taipei, which was opened in 2004. Once claimed as the tallest building in the world, Taipei 101 is a landmark and a must-see destination for tourists. Apart from Taipei 101, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is another place not to be missed.

Shopping in Taipei

Night markets are crazy in Taipei and the most famous of which is the Shilin Night Market in the Shilin District. The Metro Taipei train links make it easier for visitors to travel around the city. Ximending has been a famous area for shopping and entertainment since the 1930s. Historic structures include a concert hall and a historic cinema. Modern structures house karaoke businesses, art film cinemas, wide-release movie cinemas, electronic stores, and a wide variety of restaurants and fashion clothing stores. The area is popular with teens. Ximending is a must-visit-place when you arrived in Taipei. Experience the night markets of Taipei city and you can find weird and cheap things for souvenirs.

Speaking in Taipei

Most people in Taiwan speak both Mandarin Chinese & Taiwanese. Though the language is the same, the difference in slang can clearly tell that I’m not a local. The most important thing was, they understood what I said. And even if they did not, they would make you feel at home.

At a glance, a year has passed by and I was back at the Secutech Taipei Show, the largest security exhibition in Asia.

FingerTec in SecuTech

At a glance, a year has passed by and I was back at the Secutech Taipei Show, the largest security exhibition in Asia. They had changed the venue from Taipei World Trade Centre to Nangang Exhibition Hall, which has a larger space for the exhibitions but a bit far from the city center. I was assigned to manage the booth with my Hong Kong colleague, Mr Elvis Law.

This time around we featured our color screen models, which include i-Kiosk 100 & Q2i. These models attracted a lot of attention from the crowds. This year we secured 18 square meter of space during the 3-day exhibition. SecuTech had managed to pull visitors from abroad and FingerTec received a very good response amongst which we met with companies that are interested to introduce FingerTec in Japan and South America regions.

I also met a few of our existing clients at the show and SecuTech has been a good yearly meeting point. I hope to be there in 2010.
