Magnum Connect Fzco Remains Steadfast In The Face of Conflict With Al Dhafra Air Base, Abu Dhabi

Magnum Connect Fzco, the main distributor of FingerTec® products in the United Arab Emirates in collaboration with Emircom, their main reseller had successfully installed 35 units of FingerTec® system model AC900 to the new Air Base of MIG III for UAE Air Force in Al Dafra, Abu Dhabi in 2007. Winning the bid was victorious to Magnum Connect but they never expected to face the thunder ahead.

The new Air Base requires a system that could monitor staff’s attendance and movement simultaneously. The proposed system

must act as the first layer of security prior to implementation of other backup security systems such as CCTV. The system was intended for a building in Al Musaffah, around 100 km away from Dubai city.

After a few rounds of discussion, FingerTec® won the deal against Virdi. Complete installation and training of the entire system took approximately 2 weeks and upon completion, the site was handed over to the customer. While Magnum Connect thought that everything was under control, they got a call from an angry Lieutenant demanding them to remove the entire system from the base. Reason being, FingerTec AC900 model had failed their specific test. Much to Magnum Connect’s shock, the army had performed a test where a lieutenant was directed to break open every door by force, i.e. running from a distance and with a whole force of the body, force open the doors which have two 600lbs electric magnetic locks. They were satisfied with the time attendance system but very concerned on the access control part of the system.

Teamed up with Emircom, Magnum Connect held a meeting with the Air base’s authority to stress the fact that FingerTec® system is an access control system and that it is not a security cum access prevention solution. The authorities at the Air Base refused to accept the explanation and FingerTec Worldwide Sdn Bhd had to send an engineer to their site to further emphasize this point. After they had a few more discussions with Magnum Connect, they agreed to consider extra arrangement to the current system to achieve the desired level of security. Individual door alarm system was proposed and Magnum Connect had to complete the entire installation to accommodate the client.

Fast-forward two months, Magnum Connect received another call from the Airbase and this time the main entrance that leads to the Air base –MIG III was broken. It was not a case of force entry but the force generated by the taking off and landing of the airplanes during training had caused it to break. Magnum Connect had to redo the door locks once more as a good gesture and this time they added four units of 600lbs electric magnetic lock so the door would not be disturbed by neither the air pressure nor the human pressure.

The system at the Al Dhafra Air Base has been installed for almost a year now and Magnum Connect is very pleased with the way the situation has turned out. Despite the conflicts that arise, Magnum Connect remains steadfast and continues to provide clients solutions to their level best to ensure customer satisfaction is achieved.
