Good Deeds with FingerTec: Providing Relief to Flood Victims With Tzu Chi Malaysia Foundation

The Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, meaning “compassion and relief” in Mandarin is an international humanitarian institution and NGO was established in 1966 as a small charity organization by Venerable Dharma Master Cheng Yen with only 6 nuns and 30 housewives as her first disciples. Today, nearly 40 years later, the Tzu Chi Foundation runs an international disaster relief agency with more than 10 million Tzu Chi volunteers and relief workers in over 50 countries worldwide, all dressed their easily recognizable blue and white uniforms, working tirelessly to uphold the four notable causes which are charity, medicine, education and humanity. The foundation also engages in other programmes such as bone marrow donation, community volunteerism, environmental protection and also collaborates often with numerous other organizations to better serve local communities.

The month of December of 2014 was a period of hardship and loss for the residents living along the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Since mid-December, the Northeast monsoon rains and wind battering the East coast were relentless, with Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang affected by the worst flash flooding seen in years, with nearly 59,000 residents evacuated from their home and crippled by devastating casualties. The Tzu Chi KL & Selangor centres were the first respond to the situation to provide disaster relief efforts to a few heavily affected areas such as Gua Musang (Kelantan), and Kuala Lipis and Temerloh (Pahang).

With the flood survivors and evacuees in mind, great care was taken by Tzu Chi Malaysia Foundation to draw up relief aid plans in which cash aid and emergency relief supplies containing blankets and household essentials were delivered directly into the hands of disaster survivors stationed at the 3 main evacuation centres in the affected states. In a show of good faith, FingerTec stepped up to its role as an active partner in the community and contributed a total of RM 10, 000 in donations to help fund the Tzu Chi Foundation disaster relief effort for the immediate relief and rehabilitation of the affected communities that is still ongoing at the worst flood-hit areas.

Mrs. Teh Hon Seng, the wife of FingerTec's CEO handed over the check to The Buddhist Compassion Relief
Tzu Chi Foundation.

FingerTec’s involvement in the aid relief efforts by Tzu Chi Malaysia Foundation is part of our long-term commitment to make a difference, to give back and support our local communities in their time of need.” said Mr Teh Hon Seng, Chief Executive Officer of FingerTec Computing Sdn Bhd.
